Tree Planting Day

September 5, 2014 by Rosie

Tree being planted

I joined about 10 people working together for a couple of hours on the riverbank @ 170 Nile St (the Kennedys).  Our task was to clear invasive weeds to allow the regeneration of native vegetation and to plant some flax.

It could have been just hard work, it wasn’t, it was fun and satisfying, as our combined energies made the job much easier than I thought it would be, reminding me too of the pleasure & value of shared work.  Several times I paused to straighten my back, observe the river & the surroundings, during one such pause I asked myself: “Is this what I want to do with my retirement? Yes it is.”  And then there was a cuppa with homemade native fish shaped biscuits.  Watch this space for the next clearing/planting fun opportunity.
